Full Professor (W3) in Eukaryotic Genetics

INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL GENETICS I AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY
The position will be located at the Center of Biochemical Engineering within the
Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology, an institute that will be newly established by
fusion of the current Institute of Industrial Genetics (with its new focus on eukaryotic
genetics) and the Institute of Cell Biology and Immunology. The professorship will
involve the cooperative leadership of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology.

Research of the professorship is in the area of molecular genetics of higher
eukaryotes, with a focus on genome regulation/deregulation. Besides basic research,
this includes the development and application of new methods for the targeted
genetic manipulation of cells, aiming, for example, to explore proliferative,
degenerative and/or regenerative processes in mammalian systems. Moreover,
applications relevant to biomedical research and pharmaceutical biotechnology are
desired.

In academic teaching, the successful candidate will be responsible for the field of
genetics within the B.Sc./M.Sc. study courses of Technical Biology. Contributions to
the study courses Medical Engineering and Systems Biology (in preparation) are also
expected. She or he will also be in charge of the isotope laboratory and the
coordination of an isotope training course for Technical Biology students at the
bachelor level.

The University of Stuttgart is seeking an internationally renowned expert in the
research area mentioned above. Strong skills and previous experience in teaching
and leadership and a proven track record in attracting external funding are required.
The successful candidate is expected to engage in interdisciplinary research
activities with natural and engineering sciences as well as the Stuttgart Research
Center of Systems Biology (SRCSB). Likewise, interest in cooperating with nonuniversity
research institutions and participating in regional research networks is
desired.
