The Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island (URI) is seeking a Postdoctoral researcher with a research focus in nanomedicine, biomaterials and drug delivery for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The anticipated start date for the one-year appointment is January 2018.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, characterize and optimize polymer- and lipid-based nano/ microparticle formulations using polymer chemistry and carry out necessary in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Conduct data analysis.

Document all research procedures clearly and accurately in a timely manner.

Maintain lab equipment and train staff on the correct handling of lab equipment.

Assist in training and supervising lab staff.

Assist in the preparation of research articles and technical reports.

Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

1. Terminal degree (e.g., PhD) at time of appointment (January 2018) in Biomedical/ Pharmaceutical Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.

2. High degree of competence in developing polymer- and lipid-based nano/ microparticle formulations and/or scaffolds for drug delivery as evidenced by multiple research publications in this area.

3. Experienced in cell culture techniques and conducting in vitro experiments.

4. Demonstrated ability to design and conduct in vivo experiments to test efficacy of the developed formulations.

5. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

6. Demonstrated ability to supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students.

7 Demonstrated ability to train undergraduate and/or graduate students.

8. Evidence of research excellence as shown by publications and/or presentations at national and international meetings.

9. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

10. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Prior experience in cancer research and developing in vitro spheroid models.

2. Prior experience in using equipment like DLS, lyophilizer, ultracentrifuges, electron microscope, spectrophotometer, confocal microscope and flow cytometer.

3. Prior experience in managing lab inventory, ordering lab supplies and maintain lab equipment.
