Tenure-track Faculty Position
Pharmaceutics
Virginia Commonwealth University

The Department of Pharmaceutics at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will have a Doctoral degree (PhD/PharmD/MD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline, and will be expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program by securing extramural funding and demonstrating an exceptional record of scholarship. The successful candidate will also have a genuine interest for excellence in teaching and will be expected to participate in teaching activities in the PharmD curriculum and in the graduate program. Qualified candidates will also have demonstrated experience or show commitment to work in and foster a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment as a faculty member at VCU. Those candidates whose research interests expand and complement existing expertise in the department, including nanomedicine and materials science as it applies to the design and formulation of novel drug delivery systems, pharmacokinetics, and drug disposition and transport, are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will find VCU an exciting environment for research, and one in which collaborative work is fostered and expected. The School of Pharmacy is currently ranked #17 in the country (US News & World Report and NIH funding). Opportunities to collaborate with colleagues on the medical campus include the VCU hospital system; a top ranked hospital in Virginia, as well as the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health and Nursing. Several of our faculty members have also established successful collaborations with colleagues in the School of Engineering. These collaborative opportunities are supplemented by the University’s various centers, including Center for Clinical and Translational Research, the Institute for Structural Biology, Drug Discovery and Development, Center for Biomarker Research and the Massey Cancer Center.

VCU has ca. 31,000 students, being one of the largest four-year public institutions in VA. VCU is located in Richmond, the state capital, a historic town in a privileged location, being a short drive away from Washington DC, the Atlantic coast and the Shenandoah mountains. VCU prides itself for nurturing a dynamic learning environment in which qualified individuals of all cultural backgrounds are equally valued and supported. The University seeks excellence through diversity among its administrators, faculty, staff and students. VCU is an equal opportunity, affirmative action university providing access to education and employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, political affiliation, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or disability.

Interested individuals should submit their curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy and a statement of research interests, and the names and contact information for at least three professional references. Application materials must be uploaded to https://www.vcujobs.com/postings/66618 (position no F59410). Review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Questions should be sent to Sandro da Rocha, Ph.D., Chair of the Search Committee, at srdarocha@vcu.edu.
