    Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy is inviting nominations and applications for the position of Department Head, Pharmacy Practice. This is a tenure track position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The School is seeking a visionary leader who can sustain the Department’s educational excellence, while creating new opportunities for innovative practice models and extramurally funded scholarship.
    Candidates must hold a terminal pharmacy or related health science degree and have clinical and academic experience. Candidates should possess academic credentials sufficient to meet tenure eligibility requirements of Auburn University, as well as licensure requirements of the Alabama Board of Pharmacy. As Department Head, successful candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills; be able to facilitate, motivate, and influence; provide visionary leadership; and be a team player. The department head’s responsibilities include: daily departmental operations; budgeting; ensuring quality in the Department’s instructional programs; faculty development in all areas of scholarship; contributing to the development of School policy and strategic planning; and providing leadership in the education of pharmacy practitioners. This includes facilitating and disseminating innovative practice models, as well as promoting opportunities to enhance extramurally funded research. Candidates should expect to serve as a liaison for enhancing research productivity of the Department. Salary and rank will be competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

    THE SCHOOL AND DEPARTMENT:
    Founded in 1885, the Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy (HSOP) is the only publicly funded School of Pharmacy in Alabama. HSOP offers the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, as well as graduate degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences for approximately 650 students across physical campuses in both Auburn and Mobile, AL. The Auburn campus matriculates approximately 125 PharmD students per year, and the Mobile campus matriculates approximately 25 PharmD students per year. The Department of Pharmacy Practice is based on the Auburn campus with clinical education centers located throughout the state. Approximately 40 full-time faculty maintain practice sites in Auburn-Opelika, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Mobile, Montgomery, and Birmingham, AL as well as Columbus, GA. In addition, over 225 affiliate faculty participate in the School’s programs. The Department provides leadership in the delivery of Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum, provision of clinical services, and oversight over numerous residency programs statewide. Strategic partnerships have allowed the Department to develop and expand innovative practice models, and new initiatives provide exciting growth opportunities surrounding translational and practice-based research.

    THE UNIVERSITY:
    Auburn University is a land-grant institution with a multicultural student enrollment of over 28,000. The University provides instruction in approximately 70 academic departments and maintains graduate research and public service programs. The University is located in the city of Auburn in east-central Alabama near several large metropolitan areas of Alabama (e.g., Montgomery and Birmingham) and Georgia (e.g., Atlanta and Columbus). Co-located in Auburn is the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, which provides additional research and teaching collaborations.
