The Research Scientist functions as a team member of the Retrospective Drug Utilization Review (RetroDUR) program. The RetroDUR program is one component of a partnership between the New York State Department of Health and the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The RetroDUR program is federally mandated by OBRA 90 legislation. The goal of the RetroDUR program is to optimize medication therapy through education. RetroDUR pharmacists review claims data to identify instances where medication therapy is inconsistent with accepted standards of care and instances of medication overuse/underuse/abuse. Drug interaction and polypharmacy are also an area of focus
Job Duties:
- Conduct monthly retrospective drug utilization reviews for New York Medicaid members
- Support the operational activities of RetroDUR program through development of monthly risk reports and prescriber responses
- Participate in the development of protocols specific to the RetroDUR program through regular reviews of the medical literature for various disease states to reflect current best practices
- Participate in the development of RetroDUR review criteria and algorithms for identifying potential drug related problems
- Lead and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives for the RetroDUR program
- Serve as a preceptor for Pharmacy Practice Experiential drug information students on rotation at the RetroDUR center
- Participate in RetroDUR initiatives for education, research, and service to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
