Position Overview

The University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, invites applications a full-time, 12-month nontenure-track at the Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor level. The position requires the establishment, maintenance, and advancement of a clinical practice in an ambulatory care setting. The Department of Pharmacy Practice expects its faculty to contribute to the mission and goals of the Department and School in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service and practice. Academic rank and Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and expertise of the individual.

Job Description

Teaching (50%):/b] The position will be responsible for the coordination, instruction and completion of didactic courses in the Pharmacy School curriculum for the Pharm.D. Program. Didactic teaching at a minimum will be 50 x 1 hour live lectures per academic year. In addition, the position requires the clinical instruction of pharmacy students in experiential rotations. Teaching responsibilities will primarily be within courses taught by the Department of Pharmacy Practice and may include instruction in the Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Assessment courses and involvement with interprofessional education initiatives. Specific course assignments, coordination and locations are at the discretion of the Department of Pharmacy Practice Chair, although the instructor may be consulted about preferences.

Clinical Practice (20%): The position will include working as a clinical pharmacist in a interprofessional teaching clinic that will be stablishe by the faculty hired for this position. The development of the practice site will support the academic functions of the position.

Research and Scholarship (10%): Faculty within the Department of Pharmacy Practice, are expected to conduct research and/or scholarship on an ongoing basis. Because of the unique nature of Pharmacy Practice, collaboration is essential both within the department and with other healthcare disciplines. Publication and presentation of completed research is expected

Service (20%): The position will support the Profession, University, School of Pharmacy, and Department through their involvement and leadership roles with various committees and organizations. This may include serving and chairing University, School of Pharmacy and Department committees, holding elected positions in professional organizations, and serving on local, state and national professional organization committees. Other responsibilities may involve serving as an adviser in supporting student organizations within the School and refereeing for granting agencies, journals and professional association meeting materials. Lastly faculty shall serve their communities as a valued health care professional and citizen by providing community education and professional lectures, which may be assigned by the Chair.

Required Qualifications
  • A terminal degree, which would include a Pharm.D. or Master’s in Hospital Pharmacy or similar field.
  • Completion of advanced training through residency and/or fellowship and/or advanced certification.
  • Advanced certification is available in the clinical field, the position is expected to complete this credential. (Advanced certifications would be in the following areas: Diabetes, oncology, BCPS (Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist), Critical Care, Ambulatory Care, etc.)
  • The above is required of all candidates and for the different ranks, the candidate would need the following also:
  • Assistant Clinical Professor – 3 years of experience
  • Associate Clinical Professor – 4 to 8 years of experience and at least 9 publications.
  • Full Clinical Professor – More than 9 years of experience and at least 20 publications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency and PGY2 in geriatrics or ambulatory care or commensurate experience is preferred for Clinical track applicants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Previous experience in clinical setting, teaching, and research skills.
  • Completion of a teaching certificate program or equivalent experience in teaching.
  • Advanced certification in patient care.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary research
