Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We are seeking a passionate and innovative academic to join the School of Product Design as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Chemical Formulation Design (approximately equivalent to Assistant to Associate Professor levels in the USA). You will play a key role in delivering the Chemical Formulation Design major within our Bachelor of Product Design (BProdDesign). The successful appointee will be responsible for:
Coordinating multiple undergraduate and postgraduate courses
Teaching full courses as the sole academic
Contributing to team teaching into courses across the programme
Contributing to the graduate programme, supervising Masters and PhD students, and building a strong research portfolio
This is a unique opportunity to shape the learning experience of students in an emerging and high-impact field, while advancing your own research in areas related to cosmetic science, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, biomaterials, and consumer products.
Mōu | Who You Are
We are looking for a candidate with strong disciplinary expertise and a passion for inspiring future scientists and designers. You will bring:
A PhD (or equivalent) in Cosmetic Science, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
A deep knowledge of formulation science, with expertise in one or more application areas such as cosmetic science, personal care, healthcare or pharmaceutical products
Demonstrated ability to teach complex scientific concepts effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
An understanding of relevant product design, brand identity and brand communication
A developing or established research track record, with the potential to attract external funding and to publish in high-quality journals
Experience (or potential) in supervising postgraduate research students
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines in a design-focused environment

The School of Product Design is committed to excellence in teaching, research and creative practice at the forefront of product design, and producing versatile, innovative graduates who can contribute to New Zealand's future economic growth and social wellbeing. In addition to this role, our current technical team includes five workshop technicians and two chemical formulation laboratory technicians, while over twenty academic staff cover industrial product design, digital product design, chemical formulation design, game development, game arts and animation. We have a large number of students, ranging from first-year to master's and doctoral studies, with a range of prototyping skills.

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer $94,181 - $113,616; Senior Lecturer $119,586 - $149,806.
