Their pioneering spirit will serve them well as they develop and grow the college’s first masters program.

The ideal candidate conceptually understands the entire process of “translating” existing knowledge about biology into techniques and tools for treating human disease. They offer expertise in translating basic biomedical research findings into marketable medical products with preference given to those with prior college-level teaching experience. Connections and relationships in biomedical or pharmaceutical industries are key in successful program development.

The successful candidate must excel in establishing and maintaining high functioning, result-producing relationships and be current in the market’s latest trends and drivers. They have passion and vision and will actively engage and educate prospective students and industry partners on this newly developed program.

This year-round degree program will be delivered primarily on-line, with on-campus sessions of 2-3 days several times per semester. The program will draw students from across the country. With an established curriculum framework, the Founding Director can focus on the development and recruitment of students and industry partnerships.

The Translational Biomedical Research Management Program Director/Lead Faculty Member M.S. Program in Translational Biomedical Research Management is a full-time, tenure-track appointment (rank open) and reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Molecular Genetics, Biomedical Engineering or a related field

and/or an M.D.

• Industry experience in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or other biomedical products

• Entrepreneurially minded, comfortable forging new ground

• Administrative or management experience

• Has taught at the college or university level as an adjunct or in graduate work

• Familiarity with online teaching methods – having either taught or taken classes online previously

• Experience managing internships or scientists

• Previous implementation work experience (brought products to market)

• Open to professional development

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years industry experience in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or other biomedical products

• Full time faculty experience

• Online teaching experience

Responsibilities

In addition to teaching and overseeing summer internships, the Director is expected to: recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate a full-time administrative assistant and part-time instructors; work closely with Admissions to market the program and recruit students; identify and contract with internship sites; refine or revise the curriculum as necessary; advise students; and oversee all other administrative functions within the Program, including assessment. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence and innovation in teaching, active engagement in scholarly or creative activities, and working closely with students. Committee service and academic advising also are expected for tenure and promotion.

About the M.S. in TBRM Program

The interdisciplinary M.S. in Translational Biomedical Research Management (TBRM) program integrates didactic and experiential training in biotechnology, computational, problem–solving, and management methods to prepare versatile, critically thinking managers and leaders for academic, industrial, and governmental research facilities. Students will bring their diverse academic and professional backgrounds to bear on expanding and honing their knowledge and skills so they can fill emerging roles in the growing field of Translational Biomedical Research Management.

This two-year long cohort-model program will start in September 2019 and will combine on-line (combination of instructor-led synchronous and asynchronous sessions, individual self-study, and virtual teamwork) and on-campus (2-3 day sessions several times per semester) instruction. Some courses will be fully on-line, whereas others will be blended (on-line plus on-campus components). Courses will be offered during three 14-week semesters per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
