Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

We are seeking a passionate and innovative academic to join the School of Product Design as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Chemical Formulation Design (approximately equivalent to Assistant to Associate Professor levels in the USA). You will play a key role in delivering the Chemical Formulation Design major within our Bachelor of Product Design (BProdDesign). The successful appointee will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating multiple undergraduate and postgraduate courses
  • Teaching full courses as the sole academic
  • Contributing to team teaching into courses across the programme
  • Contributing to the graduate programme, supervising Masters and PhD students, and building a strong research portfolio

This is a unique opportunity to shape the learning experience of students in an emerging and high-impact field, while advancing your own research in areas related to cosmetic science, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, biomaterials, and consumer products.

We are looking for a candidate with strong disciplinary expertise and a passion for inspiring future scientists and designers. You will bring:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Cosmetic Science, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  • A deep knowledge of formulation science, with expertise in one or more application areas such as cosmetic science, personal care, healthcare or pharmaceutical products

  • Experience (or potential) in supervising postgraduate research students
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines in a design-focused environment

This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary School where science, design, and product innovation meet. You will have the chance to shape a growing major, influence the next generation of product designers and formulation scientists, and pursue research that makes a tangible difference.
