Position Overview

The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy is seeking an individual to lead the Department of Pharmacy Practice to support the instruction, research and clinical mission across multiple (three) campus locations, while continuing and enhancing the reputation and quality of the program to those served. This position will provide the opportunity to remain engaged in teaching, clinical practice, research, scholarship, and service to further academic interests.

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenured or non-tenured clinical-track faculty position located in Lawrence, Kansas. This position serves at the pleasure of and reports directly to the Dean of Pharmacy. Rank determinations are based upon qualifications, professional performance, research, and service experience sufficient to qualify for the appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Job Description

Administration – (60%)
Leads the creation, implementation and evaluation of a strategic plan for the Department in the areas of teaching, research, clinical practice, and service in collaboration with the faculty.
Leads and oversees all Departmental activities across multiple campuses, including faculty recruitment, retention, professional development, and succession planning.
Ensures evaluation and appointment requirements for all faculty and staff appointments are conducted annually, meeting or exceeding University requirements.
Oversees personnel matters and serves as the administrative representative for grievance procedures for the Department.
Develops, reviews, and implements University policies at the Departmental level.
Communicate with the Dean, University leaders, and community partners to effectively develop and support the appropriate resources and faculty sites for School and Graduate programs.
Develop and enhance relationships between the Department and its allied units within the University as well as other appropriate public, private, or government institutions and agencies in the areas of research, clinical practice, and instruction.
Prepare and manage the annual Departmental budget in accordance with School and University budgetary policies and procedures.
Initiate and engage in fundraising efforts to support graduate programs and other Departmental needs throughout the year.
Other duties as assigned.

Teaching/Instruction (20%)
Teach required and elective courses in the Department of Pharmacy Practice as needed. Normal teaching responsibilities are no more than the equivalent of 2 credit hours of instruction each academic year.
Advise and mentor professional degree-seeking students.
Hold regular office hours

Research/Scholarship (10%)
Maintain an active and visible program of research, including regional studies/projects that impact the profession of pharmacy
Secure external grants/contracts to facilitate research.
Conduct and publish research in leading academic journals.

Service/Professional Performance (10%)
Engage in School, University, and professional service activities as appropriate.
Provide clinical service to advance both the profession of pharmacy and the KU School of Pharmacy

Required Qualifications

Doctoral or other terminal degree in Pharmacy, and eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Kansas or eligible to obtain Kansas licensure within six months of employment.
Established record in teaching, research, and service in a biomedical discipline.
An established record of research and service evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, securing external sources of funding, and/or presentations.
Evidence of a strong record of teaching and mentoring professional degree-seeking students, graduate students, or pharmacy residents.
Documented leadership experience in developing and enhancing relationships with interprofessional healthcare constituents.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills demonstrated through application materials, interview and references that reflect experience in creating collegial work environments, and leading teams and or projects with broad and varied objectives.
Management and/or supervisory experience leading a large (greater than 10 people) clinically-focused team. Experience should come from positions held in at least two separate entities, including university, corporate, or a combination of both. Experience managing a budget in an academic or corporate environment.
